Fracture
LED torchlights, polyester resin, reclaimed glass shards
2014
Heavily driven to express how certain unwanted and wasted materials can be repurposed and viewed with definitive attributes, Fracture is my attempt at utilising the subtle idiosyncrasies of broken glass cracks and repurposing them from being identified as unwanted and inimical objects to substantial and pristine materials.
Encased in resin, the broken glass shards are recycled to highlight a distinctive ethereal quality when light permeates through, creating a shadow with a display of varying light refractions which highlight the fractures within. It is solely due to these cracks and crevices that the image with the LED light forms, thus emphasizing the unique properties that these impaired materials can take.
